L’abbaye de l’ordre de Saint-Augustin a été construite en 1128 à la demande du roi David 1er d’Ecosse. La légende veut que David ait été attaqué par un cerf alors qu’il chassait, et dans un geste défensif, prenant le cerf par les bois, s’aperçut qu’il tenait un crucifix avant qu’il ne s’échappe. Le toit de l’abbaye s’est écroulé au XVIIIème et elle n’est plus qu’une ruine aujourd’hui.

The ruined Augustinian Holyrood Abbey was founded in 1128 at the order of King David I of Scotland. The name derives from a legendary vision of the cross witnessed by David I, while he was holding by the antlers, a stag thet attacked him during a game party. The roof of the abbey collapsed during the XVIIIth century, lefting it in its present state.
