Le Snæfellsjökull est un stratovolcan de 700 000 ans, situé à l’extrémité occidentale de la péninsule de Snæfellsnes en Islande, surmonté d’une calotte glacière qui culmine à 1446 m. Cette montagne est l’un des sites les plus connus d’Islande, notamment grâce au roman de Jules Verne « Voyage au centre de la Terre » (1864) où nos héros trouvent l’entrée d’un passage vers le centre de la terre dans un cratère du Snæfellsjökull.

Snæfellsjökull is a 700,000-year-old, 1446 m high, glacier-capped stratovolcano, located at east-end of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The mountain is one of the most famous sites of Iceland, primarily due to the novel « Journey to the Center of the Earth » (1864) by Jules Verne, in which the protagonists find the entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth on Snæfellsjökull.
